Simmons mattresses stand out in brands comparisons, especially their Beautyrest innerspring mattresses. Of course this doesn't mean they make the best mattress, as no one can truly claim that. "Best" is still a matter of individual taste and preference that is only determined by you the consumer, testing different mattresses and making your own decision.
Simmons innerspring mattresses use a unique construction method which they call Pocketed Coil Design. Other companies have picked up on this technology, but credit goes to Simmons for starting the trend and marketing some impressive beds using this design. You can read more about pocketed coil design here.
The Simmons mattress support levels include Firm, Plush and Pillow Top. Firm uses a thicker wire gauge in their pocketed coils, Plush uses a thinner gauge wire, and Pillow Top adds more layers of foam to give you a softer, more cradling sensation.
Remember that all mattresses will vary in firmness not only by changes in the inner core and top layers of padding, but also in the quilting design and the top fabric used to cover the mattress. All these details have an effect, which is why it's so important to use your own firmness measurements and take lots of notes when you're choosing a mattress.
Sealy mattresses has four levels of support, with two that rate firm, so if you are very particular about support, make sure you make enough comparisons between these two mattress giants to make an informed decision.
Like all mattress companies, Simmons has product lines that go from good to better to best. What differentiates one line from the next is coil density, number of layers (their top of the line mattress has two layers of pocketed coils one on top the other), and type and thickness of foam padding.
The Simmons Beautyrest line has four product lines: Classic, World Class, Exceptionale, and NxG Series.
Beautyrest Black Collection
The Beautyrest Black Collection is a luxury line of pocketed coil mattresses that feature all kinds of luxurious add-ons, including some impressive fabrics -- silk, wool, alpaca and even cashmere. I won't say more about it here, but if you're interested in total self-indulgence and have no real budgetary concerns, you can skip over to their website, which is suitably decked out in black backgrounds with white photos, etc., very cool indeed.
Simmons Natural Care Latex
Simmons offers an all-latex mattress, and unlike Sealy, they use the real thing from the rubber tree, a 65 percent blend. Read more about the Simmons natural latex here. Briefly, it looks quite nice, has a 20-year warranty and uses other eco-friendly materials in construction. Soy is used to blend into the latex base foam, cultivated wood fiber is used for the top fabric, and the wood used in the foundation is sourced from members of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
Simmons Memory Foam
Simmon offers a Memory Foam mattress line, complete with five different models! I will not discuss them in detail here, as I will cover them in other articles on Simmons mattresses and memory foam mattresses in general.
