Serta mattresses rank number three in sales, behind Sealy and Simmons. But Serta certainly does a thriving business. They also have the tag line "We Make the World's Best Mattresses" and those cute sheep in their ads have their own page on the website.
Serta stands out in mattress brands comparisons because of their Continuous Support Innerspring.
Rather than having individual coils linked together with extra wire or placed in pockets, Serta has the coils interwoven with each other, each coil attached to its neighbor in a continuous pattern.
They claim that this reduces "motion transfer" that happens when one bed partner turns around and the other partner gets jolted awake by the movement.
Of course Simmons, with their pocketed coil design, makes the same claims, and I'm sure Sealy probably brags about reducing motion transfer somewhere in their marketing, though I haven't found it yet.
It is safe to say that all the mattress companies are recognizing this as a problem with innerspring types, and have been working hard to solve it. Which one is most successful is something you'll have to prove to yourself by testing out the mattress with your partner. Make sure you stay still while your partner turns around beside you to evaluate the results, if motion transfer is an ongoing problem for you.
Serta innerspring mattresses come in four models: Perfect Sleeper, Perfect Day, Vera Wang and Sertapedic.
They also have three foam mattress lines: Vera Wang Specialty, Pure Response and True Response.
The innerspring lines come in the typical firmness options or "comfort levels" -- firm, plush and pillowtop.
The bottom line on the Serta Mattresses is, they sound quite wonderful, as do the Simmons and Sealy. After getting a good picture of what is inside each of them and how the coil structures and the padding compares, it's time to go shopping.
